Sustainability plan for Dunfin
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Dunfin Farm. We care passionately about where we live, nature and the environment around us.
This is our home, and we feel privileged to be custodians of such a beautiful place. Our aim is to pass it on to the next generation in better condition than we received it!
We love to share our farm with visitors and educate them about how we look after special habitats on the farm, whilst providing the best animal welfare practices alongside our environmental improvements.
We have incorporated solar PV panels and a biomass heating system into our farm operations providing hot water and heating for the farm and our dwelling house. We use renewable timber sources grown on the farm to fuel the biomass boiler.
We have an ongoing program of hedge restoration and new hedge planting, provided nest sites for birds and small mammals and shelter for livestock. In the last 3 years we have planted over 1500 native trees in the new woodland.
We manage our peatlands for biodiversity and carbon sequestration, maximizing plant and animal habitat whilst retaining huge amounts of water within the peat soils.
Our farm enrolled in the UK Government-backed Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) which means we farm in a way which protects and promotes nature improvements on the farm.
By visiting Dunfin you are supporting the survival of a traditional farm with traditional values that aim to balance the needs of nature and the environment whilst supporting the rural economy and generations of farming families in the future.
