Experience Description
Our Nature Walk in the Peat Boglands takes guests around our beautiful ponds, rich with wildlife, wildflowers and plants.
Catch a glimpse of damselflies, dragonflies and butterflies and see some rare plants that live in the peatbog. Enjoy the fresh air and stunning views. Our guide will talk you through the history of the farm and how farming practices have changed through the generations.
The peat soil provides ideal conditions for some of our rarest and most interesting plants and animals. Learn about the peat and discover Ice Age sand and gravel deposits lying alongside peat soils on blanket and raised bogs. You will see how the peat was cut and dried using traditional methods and tools. You can have a go at cutting the peat or turf as it is locally known.
We no longer use peat for burning as it releases carbon into the atmosphere. Our peatbogs are huge underground stores locking in carbon which helps to protect our environment.
