Experience Description
Our Nature Walk in the Peat Boglands takes guests around our beautiful half acre ponds, rich with wildlife, wildflowers and plants.
Catch a glimpse of dragonflys, butterflies, rabbits, frogs and ducks. Take in the sunshine and stunning views as our guide talks you through the history of the land and the sights you might see.
The peat rich soils provide ideal conditions for some of our rarest and interesting plants and animals. Learn about the peat and discover Ice Age sand and gravel deposits lying alongside peat soils on blanket and raised bogs. Our guide will tell you all about peat (or ‘turf’ as it is known locally) and how it was dried and burnt in fireplaces throughout Ireland.
Today, peat is no longer used for burning as it is detrimental to the environment.
